Visa to Bali

When travelling to Bali, it is essential to choose the appropriate visa based on the length of stay and the purpose of your visit. Indonesia offers several types of visas, which differ in conditions, validity, and extension options. Below you will find a summary of the most important rules.

Tourist Visa – Visa on Arrival (VOA) and e-VOA

The Tourist Visa on Arrival (VOA) is the most commonly used option for travellers planning a stay of up to 30 days. It can be obtained upon arrival at the airport or in advance online as an e-VOA.
Both options cost 500,000 IDR and are valid for 30 days from the date of entry. Each can be extended once for an additional 30 days, making the maximum stay 60 days.

To obtain the visa, travellers must have a passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry and a return or onward ticket. If you apply for the e-VOA in advance, you can avoid queues at the visa counter and proceed directly to immigration upon arrival.

Extensions of both VOA and e-VOA are handled at immigration offices in Bali, such as Jimbaran, Denpasar, Gianyar, or Singaraja. Extensions can be arranged in person or through licensed visa agents, who handle the process for a service fee. It is recommended to apply for an extension approximately one week before the visa expires.

Mandatory Arrival Form: All Indonesia Arrival Card

As of 1 September 2025, Indonesia has introduced a mandatory online arrival form that must be completed by all travellers before entering the country. The form is free of charge, and once completed, a QR code is issued and presented at immigration control.

The form includes basic travel information, accommodation details, and a customs declaration. Completing it takes only a few minutes and significantly speeds up the arrival process.

Bali Tourist Levy: One-Time Fee for Tourists

Since February 2024, all international tourists visiting Bali are required to pay a Bali Tourist Levy via the Love Bali platform. The fee is one-time, costs 150,000 IDR per person, and can be paid online in advance or upon arrival.

After payment, you will receive a QR code voucher, which must be presented during immigration checks. The levy does not apply to holders of long-term visas (KITAS/KITAP), diplomatic visas, student visas, and similar categories.

⚠️ Important: This fee is not a visa — a valid visa is still required for entry and stay.

B211A Visa – Long-Term Stay up to 180 Days

For travellers who wish to stay in Bali longer than 60 days, the most commonly used option is the Visit Visa B211A. This visa allows an initial stay of 60 days and can be extended twice for an additional 60 days each, resulting in a maximum stay of up to 180 days.

This visa is often used by people who spend a significant part of the year in Bali, attend courses, work online for foreign clients, or plan an extended period of travel.

The B211A visa requires a sponsor, which is usually arranged through authorized visa agencies. Requirements include a passport valid for at least six months, a photograph, and a completed application form. Prices vary by agency but typically range from 2.3–3.5 million IDR for the initial visa and approximately 2–2.5 million IDR per extension.

Long-Term Visas – KITAS

KITAS is a residence permit for long-term stays in Indonesia. It is mainly used by people who work, run a business, or live in Indonesia with their family. There are several types of KITAS depending on the purpose of stay.

Working KITAS

The Working KITAS is intended for foreigners who have an employment contract with an Indonesian company. The employer is responsible for arranging both the work permit and the KITAS.

Talent or Freelancer KITAS

This type is used by individuals who work online for foreign clients in creative or technical fields. It allows long-term residence but does not permit work on the Indonesian labour market.

Family KITAS

The Family KITAS is intended for spouses and children of Indonesian citizens. It allows long-term residence without work rights.

Retirement KITAS

The Retirement KITAS is designed for individuals aged 55 and over who wish to live in Indonesia long-term. Requirements include long-term accommodation rental, health insurance, and proof of sufficient financial means.

Other Available Visa Options

Some travellers may also use other visa types, such as:

  • Business Visa (B211B) – for business meetings, conferences, and professional activities
  • Multiple Entry Visa – allowing multiple entries over one to five years, with each stay usually up to 60 days
  • Investor KITAS – for individuals investing in an Indonesian company and planning long-term business activities

Important Information for Travellers

It is essential not to exceed the permitted length of stay. Overstaying is fined at 1,000,000 IDR per day. Indonesian immigration regulations are strict, and travellers are strongly advised to monitor their visa validity carefully.

Before departure, it is recommended to store digital copies of all documents on your phone, especially the arrival card QR code, e-VOA, flight tickets, and accommodation confirmation. Internet access may be limited in some areas of the airport.
